JST051: Caroline Cowan Christmas
In 2007 the Cowans set out to find a property in the Kentish countryside. When they discovered this eighteenth century farmhouse with 22 acres and an even older barn, it offered just what they were looking for. The house is Grade II listed and they were not allowed to make major alterations. But Rob’s training in design combined with Caroline’s instincts for colour, textiles and arrangement, has transformed the interior with a consistent look that is light, warm and properly characterful. Regular visits to the Ardingly antiques fairs have provided many of the vintage pieces in the house, from the antique Italian dining table to the vintage bureau. Decorating for Christmas reflects the age and style of the house with greenery collected from their own hedgerows, candlelight and a beautifully laid table. And let’s not forget the Fishing Shack on the edge of the lake, always useful for an overflow of Christmas guests.
