RG042: Morocco House
This characterful Devonshire cottage with its links to the trade routes of old has proved an exciting new venture for its enterprising owners. Penny Noble recalls a pivotal moment in her life some 20 years’ ago when she was visiting friends in the South Hams. ‘I stood in their little garden - shared with the cottage next door -
taking in the fabulous views of the River Dart, and decided there and then to give up London life and move here for good,’ she says.
It proved a wise decision. The decades in between have proved busy and happy ones: she met and married her New Zealand husband Kit here in Kingswear just across the river from Dartmouth, and the pair threw herself into running Nonsuch House, the luxury bed and breakfast he’d originally established with his parents several years previously. But much as they loved the elegant Edwardian property, a few years’ ago the couple agreed that it was time to start putting plans in place for the future. ‘We absolutely loved our house and the business - many of our guests have become good friends over the years - but there was so much more we wanted to do going forwards, and we felt it was time to think ahead a bit,’ Penny explains. ‘The difficulty was finding a home we would love as much.’
